Aside from a few elites on the first two, the network engineers wouldn't deign to log into a server for troubleshooting and most of the DBAs needed Oracle installed for them before the could get any work done. I was resentful at first and then I realized what a powerful position a "systems engineer" is. We know ALL THE THINGS and if we don't, we know how to find it out because we understand systems, not just a piece.<br /><br />I think people really underestimate the super powers of an experienced sysadmin.
